Spinal Stenosis

Spinal stenosis is a condition where narrowing of the space between the spinal cord puts more pressure on the associated nerves traveling through the spinal vertebra, especially neck and lower back.

Causes
  • Spinal injuries due to trauma or accidents
  • Bone overgrowth
  • Wear & tear due to osteoarthritis
  • Herniated disc
  • Stiffening and thickening of the ligaments that help in keeping vertebrae together

Symptoms

Cervical spinal stenosis

  • Neck pain
  • Balance issues
  • Difficulty in walking
  • Numbness or tingling in arms and legs
  • Weakness
  • Bladder or bowel dysfunction in severe cases

 

Lumbar spinal stenosis

  • Numbness or tingling in legs and foot
  • Weakness in legs and foot
  • Back pain
  • Cramp or pain in one or both legs while walking or standing for a prolonged duration
